Day 28: How to Spot a High-Performer in 5 Minutes

Hiring doesn’t have to be complicated.

You don’t need a 3-hour interview.
You don’t need a resume with 10 years of experience.

You need to know what to look for—fast.

In my experience, I can tell within 5 minutes if someone has it.

Here’s what I watch for:

1. They ask smart questions

Not “What’s the pay?” as the first thing.
They want to know:

  • How your team works

  • How to grow in the role

  • What success looks like in your brand

High-performers are already thinking ahead.

2. They talk like an owner

They use language like:

  • “I like being part of a team”

  • “I take pride in my work”

  • “I want to grow with the business”

They don’t say “What’s in it for me?”
They ask, “How do I win here?”

3. They carry themselves with intent

You can see it:

  • They’re on time

  • They’re clear

  • They’ve done their homework

  • They listen more than they talk

That’s someone who respects the room—and will respect your brand.

What’s not working:

  • Hiring based on resume alone

  • Keeping “warm bodies” who aren’t aligned

  • Confusing charisma with character

  • Being surprised when people ghost or underperform

What you’re looking for:

✅ People who want to grow with you
✅ Fast filters to spot potential early
✅ A hiring flow that attracts the right ones
✅ Fewer interviews, better hires
✅ A brand full of people who care
